South Korea’s President Moon Jae-in said that solving the North Korean nuclear issue could be President Trump’s greatest achievement while in office.
“Then I believe that this will be the most fruitful achievement that we can achieve during our terms in office,” Moon told “CBS This Morning.” “And I also believe that this will be the greatest diplomatic achievement for president Trump as well.”
Furthermore, Moon said solving the North Korean nuclear issue could be Trump’s greatest achievement because he has made doing so a top priority. The chief of state also noted that it is a feat previous administrations could not achieve.
“And so I highly commend President Trump’s placing such great importance on the North Korean nuclear issue. And I also believe that thanks to President Trump’s approach and attitude, there is a possibility of resolving this issue,” Moon added.
In the interview, Moon said his goal as president is to “draw North Korea out to the table for negotiations” through pressure and sanctions.
“I certainly hope that conditions could become right for such dialogue before the end of the year,” Moon told CBS. “And just because we believe the dialogue is necessary does not mean that we have to be impatient for dialogue.”
The Trump administration most recently condemned North Korea after Otto Warmbier, the American college student detained by the regime for about a year and a half, died on Monday. Before his death, Warmbier’s family said their son had been in a coma for over a year.
