Almost 70 percent of voters say President Donald Trump tweets too much, while 59 percent consider that his use of the social network is a “bad thing” and his tweets hurt the U.S. national security. Overall, 23 percent say Trump’s use of Twitter is a good thing, a new Politico/Morning Consult poll shows.
A 53-percent majority of Republican voters say Trump tweets too much, though 41 percent of Republicans say Trump’s use of Twitter is a good thing overall, than a bad thing. i.e. 37 percent.
Trump’s Twitter posts have created fresh controversies this week, as GOP attorneys have suggested the President may be undermining the legal case for his stalled travel ban, and White House staffers have tried to downplay the significance of his statements on the platform.
Trump on Tuesday defended his use of the platform. “The FAKE MSM is working so hard trying to get me not to use Social Media. They hate that I can get the honest and unfiltered message out”, he tweeted.
Reports followed later Tuesday that Trump will try to undermine former FBI Director James Comey’s congressional testimony later this week using the site. Trump’s campaign account, @realdonaldtrump, has nearly 32 million followers.
The poll was conducted on June 1-2, following Trump’s announcement that he would withdraw the U.S. from the Paris Agreement on climate change. The poll also shows that voters oppose the President’s decision on the Paris climate accord, with 57 percent to 24 percent of the voters saying that the U.S. should be a part of the Paris Agreement.
