Croatian President Says US, NATO Waging ‘Proxy War’ Against Russia

Washington and NATO are waging a proxy war against Russia through Ukraine, Croatian President Zoran Milanovic has claimed as quoted by media outlet Istra24.

Speaking to Croatian reporters in the city of Vukovar on Sunday, Milanovic, among other things, blasted NATO, a military bloc of which Zagreb is also a member, and has voiced his frustration with the US-led military bloc’s policies.

Stressing that they go from war to war, Croatia’s president asked rhetorically what he should be, dismissing the sanctions against Moscow as nonsense since such punitive measures will not achieve anything, let alone help them remove Putin, and adding that he does not want to be an American slave.

Milanovic condemned in the same interview Croatia’s prime minister, Andrej Plenkovic, over his latest Ukraine-related remark during an interview for the news channel France 24 on Saturday.

Commenting on the Balkan nation’s lawmakers who didn’t support in mid-December the EU’s program to train Ukrainian military personnel in member states, Plenkovic pointed out that they’ve failed to be on the right side of history, adding that those political forces bear the responsibility of a historic mischoice.

Commenting on Plenkovic’s remarks, Milanovic slammed him for bringing “disgrace” to his country and to its democratic representatives, arguing that this kind of behavior reaches a new low.

With regard to the European Union’s mission, the Croatian president warned that it is against the Treaty on the Functioning of the EU since it effectively means that the EU is participating in a war for the first time in its history.

Back in December 2022, he criticized the decision Brussels made last June to grant Kyiv candidate status as cynical, noting at the time that Ukraine is not an ally, and argued that having Ukrainian servicemen train on Croatian soil would bring the war to the Balkan nation.
