Biden, Democrats Set for Florida Rally

In support of Democrats in Florida’s competitive senate and governor contests in November, President Biden will visit the state later this month, The Hill reported.

According to a Friday White House statement, Biden will visit Orlando on September 27. While there, he will go to a DNC event; this will be the latest time that Biden will address a crowd of Democrats before the midterm elections.

In his capacity as president, Biden will visit the state a second time. He had already gone to the Surfside Condo collapse site for a tour.

Although not all Democrats running for office in November have chosen to appear with Biden at recent rallies, he has done so to support Democrats in Maryland, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania.

Democrats want to take Florida, where Biden lost by roughly 400,000 votes in 2020, in part because of a decline in support among Hispanic voters.

Sen. Marco Rubio is being challenged by Rep. Val Demings (D), while Gov. Ron DeSantis is being challenged by former Rep. Charlie Crist (D), the state’s previous governor (R).

Polls indicate that Republicans are leading in both contests, but Democrats hope to pull off an upset because of the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade and the rising national profile of DeSantis.

The White House criticized DeSantis’ previous political stunt, which involved flying a group of migrants to Massachusetts’ Martha’s Vineyard, as being “cruel.”
