In response to ongoing Russian missile assaults, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky pleaded with the nation’s partners to supply air defense systems, The Hill reports.
On Saturday, as the conflict between Russia and Ukraine entered its fourth month, Zelensky delivered a message to the Ukrainian people and the world. He asserted that the number of nations imposing harsh sanctions on Russia is insufficient and that Ukraine needs air defense systems more than “anywhere else in the world.”
Zelensky claimed that 45 Russian missiles had hit Ukraine on the previous day in an effort to show that the Russian army would be successful in taking the nation. According to him, Russia initially intended to annex Ukraine within a matter of days, so making a show of force with missiles won’t change anything strategically.
He declared he will go to a NATO summit following the Group of Seven (G-7) summit, which brings together the heads of the seven biggest economies in the world, on Monday.
Zelensky’s remark comes as Ukrainian soldiers are leaving Severodonetsk, one of their final bastions in the eastern Ukrainian province of Donbas.
But this week’s acceptance as an official applicant to join the European Union gave Ukraine a non-military success. Although becoming a member may take years, the move further connects Ukraine with the rest of Europe as Moscow works to encircle it with its influence.
