Tehran Building Underground Nuclear Enrichment Facility Near Natanz

Israeli and US intelligence sources report that there’s an ongoing construction of a new Iranian underground nuclear facility deep into mountains south of the Natanz nuclear complex that would be able to withstand cyberattacks and bunker-penetrating bombs.

The intelligence officials have reportedly been using satellite imagery for several months to monitor the construction of a complex tunnel network at Natanz that could house a massive enrichment facility.

Citing intel assessments, the report claims that the construction of a new sheltered facility was prompted by the alleged US-Israeli joint operation targeting the internal power system at the Natanz uranium enrichment facility.

In a rare, brief remark made last month by Israeli Defense Minister Benny Gantz, it was stated that Iran is working to complete the production of the centrifuges in its nuclear facilities – including a new underground complex near Natanz- where Iran is producing some 1,000 advanced IR6 centrifuges.

The IAEA Board of Governors also criticized Iran’s developing nuclear program in a resolution last week, prompting an angry reaction in Tehran, which has threatened the agency to shut off 27 surveillance cameras at several of its key nuclear facilities.

IAEA chief Rafael Grossi promptly warned that such a move would be a fatal blow to the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action especially after the Iranian negotiation team reportedly attempted to use the new facility during the most recent round of nuclear talks with the major powers to pressure the United States into making concessions in the negotiations.

The latest report comes in light of the announced visit in July of the US President Joe Biden to the Middle East, or, more precisely, to Iran’s regional adversaries Israel and Saudi Arabia.

It also comes in the wake of the turmoil caused by Mossad which has allegedly kidnapped or taken out aerospace scientists involved in Tehran’s satellite, nuclear, and drone programs as well as several Iranian officials associated with its IRGC Quds Force overseas terror Unit 840.
