A moderate New Jersey Democrat was accused of using mailers linking a GOP contender to former President Trump to “confuse” Republican primary voters, Fox News informed.

A campaign for Representative Josh Gottheimer (D-N.J.) sent out mailers to GOP voters emphasizing Trump’s endorsement of Republican nominee Frank Pallotta in 2020.

Trump has yet to support a Republican contender for New Jersey’s Fifth District primary in 2022.

One of the mailers read that Pallotta was very similar to Donald Trump and selling Josh Gottheimer as the right solution for both sides of the aisle.

In a statement to Fox News Digital on Monday, New Jersey Republican Party executive director Tom Szymanski slammed Gottheimer for the mailers.

Szymanski said that all the money spent on these types of campaigns only shows the desperation of  Gottheimer and his endorsement of Joe Biden’s latest policies.

He also stated that there is no amount of money that will save him from the voters in the upcoming elections.

Nick De Gregorio, the front-runner for the GOP, said that is very clear that Josh Gottheimer has something else in mind of who he wants to win in the Republican primaries.

De Gregorio argued that Gottheimer is somehow using some special interest money to sponsor a disinformation campaign with the ultimate goal to confuse all the voters in the Republican primary about who the real conservative leader is.

De Gregorio went on by saying that what Gottheimer is doing is very wrong and that if he is the statesman he claims to be, he will stop the funding.

He also called on Pallotta to disavow the attempt of Gottheimer to put the thumb on the scale in the primary.

Gottheimer is not the only Democrat attempting to link Republicans to Trump in the primary. In Pennsylvania’s gubernatorial race, the Democrat nominee, state Attorney General Josh Shapiro, is airing television ads attacking GOP state Sen. Doug Mastriano as one of the strongest supporters of Donald Trump.
