Psaki Slammed by Police Union for Laughing Off Rising Crime Rates

America’s largest police union, the Fraternal Order of Police, slammed the White House press secretary Jen Psaki on Monday after she questioned the validity of discussing “soft-on-crime consequences” and mocked at the same time the news coverage of rising crime rates.

Patrick Yoes, the Fraternal Order of Police’s president, emphasized how wrong it is for Psaki to suggest that violent crime in the US is of no concern or to just laugh it off while being in one of the most protected buildings in the country- the White House.

Yet, as Yoes stressed, not everyone is feeling safe in their workplace since tens of thousands of people have been the victims of crime this month alone, with some of them losing their lives.

Psaki criticized Fox News’ covering of crime and discussing soft-on-crime consequences last week during her appearance in the Pod Save America podcast, and even laughed it off saying there’s an alternate universe on some coverage.

The White House press secretary is obviously ignoring the fact that crime did surge at the beginning of the COVID pandemic and that at least 16 US cities have set records for murders last year.

According to the results of the Council on Criminal Justice’s study murders rose 5%, gun assaults increased 8%, aggravated assaults increased 4%, and domestic violence incidents have risen 4% last year across 22 major US cities.

Psaki also claimed that by voting against the American Rescue Plan, Republicans have voted against funding for local police programs the plan contains although The Washington Post Fact Checker gave “three Pinocchios” to that claim underscoring that there’s no guarantee whatsoever that the police would get a slice of the $350 million in state and local aid earmarked for a “variety of budget-plugging purposes”.

She also mentioned the increased funding for the COPS Hiring Program, which provides funds to law enforcement agencies to hire more officers, as proof that President Biden has resisted calls from the Democrats’ progressive wing to defund police departments.
