Houston Deputy Shot Fatally During Traffic Stop

Buffalo shooting leaves 13 dead

A deputy was shot and killed after he pulled a driver over Sunday morning in Houston, The Hill reports.

47-year-old Corporal Charles Galloway was shot and killed following an attempt to initiate “a traffic stop” at approximately 12:45 a.m., according to an announcement by the Harris County Precinct 5 Constable Ted Heap.

The driver of a vehicle allegedly left his vehicle and “shot multiple times” at Galloway’s police cruiser, according to authorities. Multiple shots were fired at the deputy, who died on the spot.

According to KHOU 11, the perpetrator sped away after the shooting. The suspect, according to Heap, is a young Hispanic man driving a white Toyota Avalon.

Galloway has worked for the Houston Police Department for almost a decade. He began working for the department in 2009 and was most recently assigned to the Toll Road division. His daughter and sister are his only survivors.

Heap said Galloway was “brutally killed” during a media briefing on Sunday.

The Houston deputy “had no chance to defend himself in this terrible assault,” the policeman stated in a Facebook message.

The fatal shooting in Houston happened only days after a New York Police Department policeman was shot and murdered in Harlem while responding to a 911 call about a family feud. Following the incident, another cop was stated to be “fighting for his life.”
