OnlyFans Founder Steps Down as CEO

After a tumultuous year, OnlyFans is getting a new female chief executive to lead the content subscription website.

The founder of the adult content website OnlyFans, Tim Stokely, announced this week that he is stepping down as CEO and making way for the marketing head, Amrapali Gan, to take his place. Gan joined the organization last year as chief marketing and communications officer.

In a news release, the company said that Gan will take over day-to-day leadership from Stokely, and that Gan will continue to grow the company and drive its vision.

Stokely also made the announcement in social media posts, saying that he is leaving his position in order to pursue new endeavors. He said that Gan has both the vision and the drive to help the company reach tremendous potential.

OnlyFans saw a surge in subscriptions during pandemic lockdowns over the past two years. It currently has 180 million registered users, and more than two million creators, located across the world. It was founded in 2016 and since then has paid out over $5 billion to its creators.

It was founded as a platform for personalities and celebrities to upload videos and content to share with fans who subscribe to their channel. Soon it became known for hosting adult content and sexually explicit content.

The site has faced some controversy and criticism. Some criticism against the site was that it does not do enough to prevent those who are underage from selling explicit content.

The site was famous for hosting explicit adult content. But in August, it announced that sexually explicit content would be blocked starting in October, citing pressure from banking partners. A huge backlash ensued from users and sex workers, so much so that the site backtracked and canceled the policy change.

While sex workers and porn stars are some of the most famous content creators on the site, it also offers a platform for celebrities, artists, musicians, and fitness trainers.
