Dodik Accuses US Embassy of Trying to Turn Bosnia into a “Muslim state”

Noting on Thursday that the United States Embassy is the epicentre of instability in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Serb member of Bosnia’s tripartite Presidency, Milorad Dodik, also accused the American diplomatic mission that it is working towards turning country into a Muslim state, N1 reports.

Dodik stressed that the US are continuously pushing the Muslim project of BiH in the country, falsely presenting that they are creating a functional state while, in essence, they’re working for Muslims and the creation of their Muslim state, and called on the US Embassy to stop with threats and lectures on violations of the Dayton Agreement that helped end the war.

His statement follows after US Deputy Assistant Secretary overseeing policy towards the countries of the Western Balkans, Gabriel Escobar, visited Sarajevo and held separate meetings with , Šefik Džaferović and Željko Komšić, the BiH Presidency’s Bosniak and Croat members.

The ongoing political crisis in Bosnia was initiated by Dodik’s initiative to unilaterally start transferring competencies from the state to the semi-autonomous entity of Republika Srpska, also pointing that the RS will undo post-war reforms which resulted in the establishment of certain state-level institutions, including the army and judicial institutions.

Bosnian constitution established in the Dayton peace accords bars any of the country’s two entities from creating an agency that undermines federal bodies.

This statement prompted the US Embassy to underscore on Wednesday to stress that the US is seriously concerned about the divisive rhetoric and stands ready to use all available sanctions against those who undermine or facilitate the undermining of the Dayton Peace Agreement.

The Embassy’s statement noted there is no constitutional way for one entity to unilaterally withdraw from state institutions and that all Bosnian leaders have a responsibility to reject destabilizing actions.

The joint statement from US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell issued at the same time also pointed that the US and EU strongly support the BiH territorial integrity.
