All Turkish checkpoints on the border with Iran are closed for the passage of Iranian trucks, Ozcan Alash, head of the Association for the Development of Trade with Iran, said.

“Turkey’s decision to close border checkpoints for the passage of Iranian trucks followed in response to the ban on the passage of Turkish trucks to Iran,” Alash noted.

“Trade turnover between Iran and Turkey has been completely suspended due to the tense situation on the border between Iran and Azerbaijan,” the agency’s source said.

According to him, the situation may negatively affect trade relations between Tehran and Ankara, the trade turnover between which has already decreased due to the coronavirus pandemic.

In the past few days, tensions have grown between Tehran and Baku. since Iranian authorities suspect that Azerbaijan is closely cooperating with its regional Iranian opponent, Israel.

Tehran accused Tel Aviv of seeking to get closer to the Iranian borders through Azerbaijan, trying to take advantage of the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh, and also seeking to foment a conflict in relations between Baku and Tehran.

Iran decided to hold large-scale military ground exercises near the borders with Azerbaijan, noting that it would not allow the presence of “third countries” and “foreign invaders” in the Transcaucasian region.

Azerbaijani leader Ilham Aliyev, in turn, said that Baku does not agree with Tehran’s statements about the presence of Israeli forces near the Azerbaijani-Iranian border and requires proof.

Israeli Ambassador to Russia Alexander Ben Zvi said that presence of the Israeli military in Karabakh is a “great stupidity” from Tehran, and also “their fantasy”.
