House Speaker of Georgia Requests $1,000 Bonus for Sheriff Deputies and Police Officers

House Speaker of Georgia said on Wednesday that he will request $75 million from the state budget in order to award police officers and sheriff’s deputies with a $1,000 bonus, raise the salaries for the prosecutors as well as public defenders and boost Georgia’s Bureau of Investigation capacity, Fox News informed.

Republican David Ralston stated that the new funds will also be used for GBI to launch probes for suspected election fraud, adding that related legislation in the 2022 legislative session will give permission to the agency to initiate such probes without it being requested from another local authority or state.

Part of the new funds will also be allotted for boosting services that cover mental health.
