Taliban Brag with Seized American Weaponry after US Troops’ Withdrawal

After US forces abandoned their military bases in Afghanistan as part of the withdrawal plan, leaving behind thousands of the world’s most developed brand news artillery, the country seems on the verge to implode with the Taliban’s influence flourishing in the region and the Afghan government’s security issues compounding.

Sky News has reported on increased seizure of Afghan weapons Taliban are bragging with, supplied by the US to the Afghan Army, that are now ready to be used by the very group they were meant to be turned on. Taliban even invited the outlet to the strategic facility they recently captured.

Taliban forces captured Sultan Khil military base in Wardak Province, shortly after engaging with Afghan soldiers for two days, acquiring in the process a number of weapons and military equipment from the government forces, many of which were emblazoned with “Property of USA Government”: 70 sniper rifles; 900 guns; 30 Humvees; 20 military pickup trucks; and 15 articulated military trucks.

Many battles have occurred in northern Afghanistan over the past several days with media reporting that the Taliban now controls a third of Afghanistan’s 421 districts and district centers.  According to estimates by the Long War Journal Overall, militants have captured at least 120 districts since May 1 with 195 Afghan districts (49%) no being under Taliban control.

Mohib-ul Rahman, a council member in the northeastern Badakhshan province, pointed that, unfortunately, eight of the 10 districts that fell in Taliban hands were captured without any fight due to poor morale and low government forces.

Territory obviously isn’t the only thing Afghan troops are giving up on with shocking footage showing how surrendering Afghan troops hand over their weapons to the Taliban along with the keys to their armoured cars.

The US military has completed more than 90% of its withdrawal process from Afghanistan and has officially transferred seven facilities to the Afghan Ministry of Defense US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced on Tuesday, pointing that no further percentages regarding the pullout will be published in the future.
