DOJ Filed Lawsuit against Georgia for New Voter Rights Restrictions

Merrick Garland, the Attorney General announced that the Justice Department has filed a suit against the State of Georgia, claiming that the recently adopted election law is in violation of the Voting Rights Act protections for the minority voters, CNBC informed.

Garland said that wherever they notice violations they act upon it.

The Attorney General also stated that the reform law was enacted in order to deny or abridge the rights of Black residents of Georgia to cast their votes due to their race or skin color.

Garland also said that this suit is a the first one of many steps they are taking to allow all those eligible for voting to cast their votes without any obstacles.
