Texas Governor Abbott Reveals New Plan to Build Border Wall

Greg Abbott, the Governor of Texas on Wednesday formally revealed that the state is going to build a border wall, accusing Biden administration of not standing up to its responsibility to secure the southern border, Fox News informed.

He made the announcement at a press conference, also revealing a $250 million down payment for the launch of this project, paving the way for the state to employ a project manager and begin the project. Abbott said that the wall would use a combination of state land and some private land donations, and will be in part funded by the donations.

He said that he believes this combination would yield a territory of hundreds of miles which can then be used to start with wall construction.

According to Dallas Morning News, the down payment for this wall will come from the Department of Criminal Justice in Texas.

During the Trump tenure, about 450 miles of border wall was constructed. The operations were then halted by the Biden administration not long after the Biden assumed his post. Those who opposed the construction said that it is ineffective and cruel, while those who wanted it built said that the wall was a crucial part of the border strategy to curtail the influx of illegal immigrants.
