Biden to Meet with Turkey Leader Erdogan amid Strained Relations

US President Joe Biden is set to meet on Monday with President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan in their first official face to face meeting after the acknowledgment of a strained relations between the two countries, CNBC informed.

Their meeting will be held on the sidelines of the summit of NATO leaders, and will offer a chance for Biden and Erdogan to talk about the sanctions US slapped on Turkey, over the Russian-made rocket system.

The CAATSA or the Countering America’s Adversaries Through Sanctions Act says that any foreign government that collaborates with the defense sector of Russia will fall under the economic sanctions of US.

Turkey, a NATO ally, purchased a Russian-made missile system, which led to Trump administration’s slapping the CAATSA sanctions in December. The Russian S-400 rocket system, poses a great risk to the NATO alliance and US expensive weapon platform F-35.
