With less than a week before the summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Geneva, former U.S. president Donald Trump trolled his successor Joe Biden wishing him good luck and encouraging him to stay awake.
“Good luck to Biden in dealing with President Putin – don’t fall asleep during the meeting, and please give him my warmest regards!” Trump said in a barbed message on Thursday.
During last year’s presidential campaign Trump nicknamed Biden “Sleepy Joe” – among his other nicknames like “1% Joe”, “Basement Biden”, and “Beijing Biden” – and repeatedly claimed he was in mental decline.
Biden’s meeting with Putin is scheduled next week and Moscow has described its as “very, very important” but cautioned that no one should have high hopes about its outcome.
“There is no reason to expect any progress in reaching mutual understandings” or achieving a reset of relations,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has told reporters.
Trump also reminisced about his 2018 meeting with Putin in Helsinki calling it “a great and very productive meeting” in which the U.S. “won much, including the respect of President Putin and Russia” despite the “belated Fake News portrayal” of what happened by U.S. spies and media.
“Because of the phony Russia, Russia, Russia Hoax, made-up and paid for by the Democrats and Crooked Hillary Clinton, the United States was put at a disadvantage-a disadvantage that was nevertheless overcome by me,” Trump said.
The part about it being “made-up and paid for by the Democrats and Crooked Hillary Clinton” was a reference to the notorious- entirely unsubstantiated- dossier compiled by a British spy Christopher Steele paid by Clinton’s campaign. The media used Steele Dossier to claim Trump was a Russian agent while FBI used it to obtain a series of FISA warrants to spy on Trump’s campaign via aide Carter Page.
Trump pointed it was the “obvious” choice for him to believe Russia over former U.S. intelligence officials.
“As to who do I trust, they asked, Russia or our ‘intelligence’ from the Obama era, meaning people like Comey, McCabe, the two lovers, Brennan, Clapper, and numerous other sleazebags, or Russia, the answer, after all that has been found out and written, should be obvious. Our government has rarely had such lowlifes as these working for it,” Trump said on Thursday.
As a reminder, James Comey was the FBI director at the time with Andrew McCabe as his deputy while key figures in the FBI’s investigation of Trump, dubbed ‘Crossfire Hurricane’, were agent Peter Strzok and attorney Lisa Page, who were also behind the trumped-up investigation of Trump’s first national security adviser Michael Flynn.
The infamous intelligence community assessment that claimed Russia had interfered in the 2016 U.S. presidential election was compiled by James Clapper, the director of National Intelligence, who worked closely with CIA Director John Brennan.
Trump’s snarky “wishes” to Biden came after the president’s meeting with UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson on Thursday.
