GOPs’ political attacks on Dr. Anthony Fauci, the nation’s top government infectious-diseases expert, have gone into overdrive on Wednesday with senators Marsha Blackburn, Marco Rubio and Tom Cotton demanding his resignation amid controversy surrounding the origins of COVID-19 and release of a trove of Fauci’s emails last week, Fox News reports.
They claim Fauci he has lost the confidence of the Americas with his repeated evasions, misdirection, and politicized statements and, in case he doesn’t step down, the Republican senators are urging President Biden to fire him.
Rubio noted that they’ve seen Dr. Fauci withhold information, dismiss plausible explanations of COVID’s origin and outright lie to Congress for 16 months, calling him a pundit distorting the truth to conform with his personal judgment. He told Fox News that President Biden needs to fire Fauci if he’s committed to science and finding the truth about COVID.
Cotton and Blackburn shared similar opinions, pointing that he needs to step down or President Joe Biden should fire him with Dr. Fauci responding to criticisms, calling the attacks on him attacks on science.
White House Coronavirus Task Force Director Jeffrey Zients credited Fauci with helping to invent and invest in the mRNA of vaccine platform over the last two decades , pointing that it’s how Americans got their vaccine in the first place.
The White House and President Biden has been staunchly defending Fauci with White House press secretary Jen Psaki saying last week that Fauci has been an undeniable asset in our country’s pandemic response, and said she can’t imagine President Biden firing Fauci who has overseen management of multiple global health crises.
Meanwhile, GOP senators’ initiative received support from House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy while number of other House Republicans are demanding Fauci to testify before Congress.
