France Warns U.S. Espionage on EU Leaders May Have Consequences

Reports that U.S. National Security Agency has exploited the collaboration with Denmark’s secret services in spying on European officials are extremely serious if true, the French secretary of state for European affairs, Clement Beaune, has said in an interview with France Info radio network.

Beaune underlined that they must verify if their EU partners, Danes, have committed errors or mistakes in their cooperation with the American services and if Americans were indeed listening and spying on politicians.

He said the situation could have consequences in terms of cooperation with the United States, pointing he did not know the identity of the French officials who were allegedly spied on.

Beaune warned that if the espionage facts are proved to be true, there will be a certain number of diplomatic protests.
