Blinken Offers Support to AP Chief Pruitt after Gaza Media Tower Bombing

Secretary of State Anthony Blinken offered his unwavering support for independent journalists and media organizations around the world talking to Associated Press CEO and President, Gary Pruitt, hours after Israeli airstrikes destroyed media tower housing AP offices and Al Jazeera in Gaza City, The Hill learns.

Blinken also emphasized the indispensability of their reporting in conflict zones and expressed relief that the AP team in Gaza remains safe.

The Israeli Defense Forces targeted the building claiming Hamas has “placed military assets” inside high-rise buildings for intelligence gathering, communication and other purposes, giving the owner of the building and occupants an hour to evacuate before the bombing.

Pruitt denounced the Saturday attack, writing that AP was “shocked and horrified” that Israeli forces would launch an airstrike on the building.
