Biden Bypasses Ethics Rules for Former Union Bosses Employed in White House

Republicans on Capitol Hill criticized Biden administration after a decision to bypass federal ethics rules an employ former union officials in senior posts, Fox News informed.

The White House decided to avoid the rules for several union employees who were supposed to assume various positions in the transition teams and a number of government posts.

According to Axios, Alethea Predeoux, a senior official in the OPM (Office of Personnel Management) was given the chance to act as a communication facilitator between the American Federation of Government Employees and the government agency. The tricky part is that previously Predeoux was the head lobbyist for the this Federation that represents more than 700,000 workers.

In April, the White House issued a similar waiver, allowing for Celeste Drake, who was tapped to lead the White House Made In America Office, to communicate with her former employers, the Director’s Guild of America and the American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO).

Biden’s administration that this waivers are necessary in order to smooth the communications between labor unions and government agencies.

In his campaign, Biden promised to help unions in the US, but Republican think that this move made the administration leaning in favor of these unions.

In the previous months, the involvement of the unions in the policymaking at the White House is sharply increased.
