Michael Cohen Writing Book about DOJ and Trump World

Michael Cohen, President Donald Trump’s former fixer who turned against him, is writing a second book, about the politicization of the Justice Department and his time in Trump world, Politico reports.

Last month Cohen published his first book, “Disloyal: A Memoir: The True Story of the Former Personal Attorney to President Donald J. Trump,” which was a number one New York Times bestseller.

The first book was about how Cohen thought that Trump was a narcissist and sociopath and that Trump’s behavior is identical to that of a “mob boss.” Multiple entities are vying to adapt that book into a movie.

“There’s so much more to the story that hasn’t been told, tangentially related to Donald Trump,” he told POLITICO in a brief interview on Wednesday. “It is fair and accurate to state that President Trump has weaponized the Department of Justice against those he deems to be a threat thus making it into the Department of Injustice.”

Cohen has worked on the new book for about a month and is almost done with the outline, he said. While Skyhorse published his first book, he said he was in discussions with multiple publishers on the new one and hoped to publish it in 2021.

Chapters of the new book are expected to include discussions of the warrant for the raid of his office and hotel room, as well as his views of the prosecutors who went after him, the banks and other witnesses who worked with the Justice Department, the judges who worked on his case, the Christopher Steele dossier and how government officials dealt with him.

Although he was sentenced to three years in prison for tax fraud and lying charges, he was released from prison in late July and is serving the rest of his sentence in home confinement.

The charges that Cohen pleaded guilty to were tax evasion, misrepresentation to a bank and campaign finance violations, but the book will seek to unravel the entire case and expose the tough tactics often used by prosecutors to obtain convictions, Cohen said.

“The suggestion that President Trump weaponized the Southern District of New York is truly laughable,” said a Justice Department official when asked about the book. “It’s a joke.”

Prosecutors said that Trump directed Cohen in hush money payments designed to sway the 2016 presidential election. Cohen also later pleaded guilty with former special counsel Robert Mueller to lying to Congress, reportedly at the direction of Trump, about work he did during the election on an aborted Trump Tower project in Russia.

Asked about what he’s doing besides book writing and his new podcast, Cohen said on Wednesday: “That I won’t discuss, what else I’m doing other than working every day to make amends with my wife, my daughter, my son and the country.”
