President Trump on Friday said that Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden would turn Minnesota into a “refugee camp” full of people like Rep. Ilhan Omar, New York Post reports.
“Sleepy Joe will turn Minnesota into a refugee camp,” Trump told a large rally in Bemidji, northern Minnesota.
Trump, who narrowly lost Minnesota in 2016, called the scandal-plagued Minneapolis Democrat and refugee from Somalia “a beauty.”
“Every family in Minnesota needs to know about sleepy Joe Biden’s extreme plan to flood your state with an influx of refugees from Somalia and from other places all over the planet. That’s what’s happened, and You like Omar a lot, don’t you?” Trump said.
Trump said he would keep restrictions on refugee admission and deport criminals so they could “complain” in their own countries — another swipe at Omar.
“Today we deported, as you know very well, dozens of Somali nationals charged or convicted with very grave crimes including rape assault, robbery, terrorism and murder, of course. These hardened criminals are back in their country, where they can do all the complaining they want, and your children are much safer as a result, thank you President Trump,” he said.
The largely unmasked rally packed with thousands of enthusiastic people on an airport runway contrasted sharply with an event Biden held in nearby Duluth, where he gave brief remarks with a small socially distanced audience.
Trump’s remarks about refugees was in reference to Biden’s proposal to raise Trump’s 18,000-person cap on refugee admissions to 125,000. The limit was 130,000 under former President Barack Obama.
The President’s sustained attack on Omar included a reference to an allegation that the thrice-married congresswoman married her own brother to commit immigration fraud.
“We talk about AOC being crooked — she’s 100% correct… Look at Omar, she came in here. Did she marry her brother? Where’s that writer? The writer should be given the Pulitzer Prize,” he said.
Omar is a divisive figure within the Democratic Party. A fellow Minnesota Democratic congressperson, Rep. Collin Peterson, this week said she did not belong in the party.
Biden, he said, was not qualified to manage a McDonald’s restaurant and “will overwhelm your children’s schools. overcrowd their classrooms and inundate your hospitals, it’ll happen. Biden has even pledged to terminate our travel ban jihadist regions.”
