Biden’s Presidential Campaign Raised $43.7mn In April

Joe Biden’s campaign raised $43.7 million in April, according to Federal Election Commission filings released Wednesday, Forbes reported.

That’s down from the $46.7 million raised in March, which was the biggest fundraising month of Biden’s presidential campaign to date. The former vice president had capitalized on success in the South Carolina primary on February 29 and in the Super Tuesday elections on March 3.

The Biden campaign spent $12.9 million and reported $57.1 million cash on hand at the end of April, which is up from the $26.4 million the campaign had on hand at the close of March. Together, the Democratic National Committee and the Biden campaign raised $60.5 million last month, according to a statement from the Biden campaign. That is slightly less than the $61.7 million the Trump campaign, RNC and its committees said that they raised in April.

Since Covid-19 shut down in-person fundraising in March, Biden has hosted a number of virtual fundraising events, joining via video from his Wilmington, Delaware home.

In early April, billionaire Hyatt heiress Penny Pritzker, who served as secretary of commerce in the Obama administration, hosted a virtual fundraiser for the former vice president. Attendees included another Chicago billionaire, Neil Bluhm, as well as Laura Ricketts, the daughter of TD Ameritrade billionaire and GOP megadonor J. Joe Ricketts, according to pool reports.

Biden’s wealthier donors now have the opportunity to contribute more money to support the Biden campaign’s efforts. The Biden Victory Fund, a joint fundraising committee between the Democratic National Committee, the Biden campaign and other state committees, is accepting donations of up to $660,600 per person. Federal law restricts the amount any individual can give directly to a campaign to just $5,600.
