Several messages, both in English and Spanish, aimed at President Donald Trump could be seen Wednesday near the Walmart memorial in El Paso in the wake of the fatal mass shooting there that left 22 people dead and many more injured.
The messages ask Trump and his supporters to take action and do something about gun violence in the country. The issue has gained traction lately with a number of lawmakers and citizens calling for stricter restrictions.
“Mr. Trump: No more acts of racism acts of hate acts of terrorism. We are a ‘Hispanic’ country and the hate towards ‘Mexicans’ is not fair / We are three girls American citizens / Our parents are Mexican and we are afraid to go outside / We hope you read this message. God bless you,” says a message in Spanish, signed “El Paso Strong.”
Since the shooting Sunday, many have expressed fears to even go outside, CNN reports.
“Trump supporters, open your eyes if it was one of your love ones that was shoot and killed, so it would be OK. No!!! They all were human being,” another message reads.
Yet another tells “Mr. T” to respect the city residents’ grief and not “invade” El Paso, adding “Instead, continue to play golf, crash weddings or go to ‘Toledo Ohio’.” The message is a reference to the President’s recent blunder, when he called Dayton Toledo and his tendency to show up at his supporters’ weddings at his private clubs.
Some event went as far to attribute the deadly shooting in El Paso to Trump’s racist rhetoric, which was mirrored in the shooter’s manifesto posted online shortly before his killing spree. President Trump has denied his words spark hatred and has refused to take any responsibility for the shooting.
