Jared Kushner Making Peace in Middle East from a Hotel in Manama, Bahrain

Jared Kushner is making efforts to bring peace in the Middle East in a hotel in Manama, Bahrain, but he had a tough start on his mission.

Kushner’s plan is presented as a vision to empower the Palestinian people to build a prosperous and vibrant Palestinian society, but the critics say that the proposal is something like a real estate brochure complete with glossy promotional photos from Palestinian aid programs cut by the Trump administration.

The Bahrain conference is hosted by the US Treasury Department, the government of Bahrain along with its ministry of finance and the White House. It is seen as an opportunity for governments and various businesses to share their ideas and talk about strategies for economic initiatives in the West Bank and Gaza that could be made possible by a peace agreement, Al Jazeera reports.

Arab countries like Egypt and Jordan sent their representatives, but many of them were midlevel which can be seen as a message against the Trump administration and the wish not to offend the Palestinians, as noted by the Washington Post. The International Monetary Fund and the World Bank sent their representatives along with other business leaders.

Kushner had an interview with Al Jazeera in which he said that the conference was already a success.

“I think it’s already been a success in the sense that we have every country coming from the region, we have many countries coming from throughout the world, despite people who tried to get them not to come, they’re all coming and that is a very first big step,’’ said Kushner.
