Trump on Assange’s Arrest: ‘I Know Nothing About WikiLeaks’

Julian Assange, the founder of WikiLeaks,  was arrested by the U.K police outside the Ecuador embassy in London today. Regarding this U.S. President Donald Trump said that he does not have an opinion about the arrest of Assange, who might be extradited to the United States over the publishing of secret official information according to Reuters.

After seven years of taking refuge in the Ecuadorian embassy, the government of Ecuador withdrew Assange’s asylum and allowed the British police to arrest him.

Moments before his meeting with South Korean President Moon Jae-in, President Donald Trump told the reporters the following:

‘’I know nothing about WikiLeaks. It’s not my thing… I don’t really have any opinion.’’

During the presidential campaign from 2016, WikiLeaks released many hacked documents from the Democratic Party that made a lot of damage to Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton. Trump then praised WikiLeaks and said that he loves them.

Assange has been charged by U.S. prosecutors for conspiring with former Army intelligence analyst Chelsea Manning to access a government computer.

Former President Barack Obama commuted Manning’s last 28 years of her sentence as she was convicted by a court-martial six years ago for espionage and other crimes for providing more than 700,000 documents, videos, diplomatic cables and battlefield accounts to WikiLeaks.
