Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez ripped a group of College Republicans who had allegedly labelled her a “domestic terrorist” in a fundraising email.
Ocasio-Cortez, who also cited death threats made to her and other House Democrats, questioned when GOP members would put an end to their practice of using rhetoric endangering others, including her.
“This puts me in danger every time. Almost every time this uncalled for rhetoric gets blasted by [conservative groups], we get a spike in death threats to refer to Capitol Police,” the Democratic Representative wrote in a tweet.
“Multiple ppl have been arrested trying to harm me, Ilhan, & others,” she added, referring to Representative Ilhan Omar. “@GOP, what’s it going to take to stop?”
Her tweet came in response to a report that the Ohio College Republican Federation had called Ocasio-Cortez “a domestic terrorist” in the subject line of a fundraising email in which they also criticized her and other Democrats’ “Marxists” views.
Public Integrity’s Dace Levinthal posted a screenshot of the email’s subject line on Twitter, writing, “In a fundraising email today, the @OhioCRs describe @AOC as a “domestic terrorist” — a term often reserved for the likes of Timothy McVeigh and people who kill children in their school classrooms.”
Ocasio-Cortez further pointed out that the threats of violence Omar and she had been receiving were a result of rhetoric from Fox News host Jeanine Pirro, who recently questioned whether Omar’s wearing a hajib was a sign of “her adherence to Sharia law, which in itself is antithetical to the United States Constitution.”
The New York Democrat addressed Pirro’s remarks directly, saying that her claims that hijabs are threatening have led to Omar and others receiving death threats.
“Folks who imply we’re ‘bad’ for politics, the party, the country, etc. have no idea the threats we deal w/ because of that kind of language,” Ocasio-Cortez said in a separate tweet.
