Trump Says he Wants to Boost U.S. Legal Immigration due to Low Unemployment

President Donald Trump on Wednesday stated that he wants to increase the percentage of people who are legally migrating to the U.S., because of the low unemployment numbers, Fox News informed.

Talking with the reporters in the Oval Office, Trump said that there is a large number of companies that are deciding to move back their businesses back into U.S., and that people who will legally migrate are needed for the open positions in these companies.

“We have seven car companies coming back in right now and there’s going to be a lot more,” Trump said. “We’ve done really well with this, and we need people.”

Trump’s comments arrive after he made a push for immigration during his recent State of the Union address.

“Legal immigrants enrich our nation and strengthen our society in countless ways,” the President said, before ad-libbing that he wants people to enter the U.S. “in the largest numbers ever.”

“I need people coming in because we need people to run the factories and plants and companies that are moving back in. We need people,” Trump said when asked if he was officially changing his immigration policy.

The Trump administration’s policy positions do not reflect his statement, and during his address, the President had argued that illegal immigrants take jobs away from middle-class Americans.
