RON’S COMMENT: Today’s average is based on five polls, ranging from 37% (CNN) to 44% (HarrisX). Without these two extremes, it would be 42%…. President Trump’s disapproval rating averages 55% today, which is 14 points higher than his approval rating.

Kevin McCarthy: 11%/15%
Mitch McConnell: 21%/45%
Chuck Schumer: 26%/40%

RON’S COMMENT: Favorable ratings for Pelosi and McConnell are higher than at any time over the past decade in this poll…. Among Democrats, Pelosi is 71%/10% and Schumer is 51%/10%… Among Republicans, McCarthy is 21%/5% and McConnell is 42%/24%.

RON’S COMMENT: Among independents, 30% say Trump is honest, 33% say he has good leadership skills, 39% say he’s fit to serve as president and 39% say he cares about average Americans. In 2016, independents voted for Trump 46-42 over Hillary Clinton.

TRUMP AND CONGRESS

RON’S COMMENT: 7% of Republicans, 83% of Democrats and 51% of independents say members of Congress should stand up against Trump and his policies.

Comparing Attitudes on the 2013 and 2019 Shutdowns

A slate of recently released polls show that President Trump and Republicans in Congress are receiving more blame than Democrats in Congress for the current government shutdown. These polls bear striking similarities to polls released in the wake of the last major government shutdown in 2013 under the Obama administration.

A new Quinnipiac poll shows that 56% of voters blame Trump and Republicans for the latest shutdown, while 36% blame Democrats. A recent ABC/Washington Post also put the blame on Trump and the Republicans in Congress at 53%, with 29% blaming Democrats.
