Kanye West is quitting social media again amid controversy over his support for President Donald Trump, The Hill informed. The famous artist shut down his Twitter and Instagram accounts on Sunday, after a week in which he received criticism for a video where he gave a pro-Trump speech following his appearance on Saturday Night Live (SNL), and a series of tweets in which he discussed abolishing the 13th amendment.
This is not the first time that the rapper has quit social networks – he also left Twitter last year only to return after a few months. This week West fielded criticism from multiple celebrities over his pro-Trump speech, during which he wore a red “Make America Great Again” hat and made an appeal for supporting Trump.
The hiatus kicks in as fans await his new “Yandhi” album, which had been expected for release last weekend. Last Monday, his wife, Kim Kardashian, announced the album is delayed until Nov. 23, USA Today informs.
In another video circulated on Twitter by hip-hop producer Mike Dean, West suggested the show’s producers didn’t want him to wear the MAGA hat on stage. “They bullied me backstage. They said, ‘Don’t go out there with that hat on’.”
West noted that white people ask him, “‘How could you like Trump, he’s racist’? Well, uh, if I was concerned about racism I would’ve moved out of America a long time ago.”
“We need to have dialogue, not a diatribe. It’s easy to make it seem like it’s so, so, so one-sided,” West said, claiming that 90 percent of the news media, the TV industry, rappers and musicians are liberal.
“Black man in America, supposed to keep what you’re feeling inside right now. All those Democrats. You know, it’s like the plan they did, uh, to take their fathers out the home and promote welfare. Does anybody know about that? That’s a Democratic plan,” West said on the SNL episode.
SNL cast member Pete Davidson mocked West’s speech during the following SNL episode, calling it “one of the worst, most awkward things I’ve ever seen here.” During his speech, West claimed SNL cast members had urged him not to wear the “MAGA” hat onstage.
