Parkland Shooting Survivor Urges Congress to Set Politician Age Limit

David Hogg, an 18-year-old survivor of the Parkland school shooting, is urging for age limit in politics. According to Newsweek, citing Hogg’s interview with New York Magazine, the young man has an extensive interest in politics, and says he would love to be part of it one day.

“I think I’ve come to that conclusion,” Hogg said. “I want to be at least part of the change in Congress.” He said that he expects he’ll run for congress around the age of 25.

Hogg believes the Republican party’s success is mainly a result of ‘empowering young people’ and his idea is that Congress has to set an age limit for candidates and elected members.

“The reason Republicans are successful right now is because they’re empowering young people,” he said. “Older democrats just won’t move the f*** off the plate and let us take control. Nancy Pelosi is old.” Minority Leader of the United States House of Representatives, Pelosi is a Democrat and 78 years old.

Lisa Miller of the NY Magazine disputed the idea and said that age is not particularly linked to the effectiveness of a politician. Hogg later went on Twitter and asked his 868,000 followers what they thought.

“I had an interesting conversation today when the question of congressional age limits came up. Do you think there should be an age limit on congressmen, congresswomen, and congressthem?”

The vote polled almost 34,000 people, 59 percent of which voted in favor of the age limit.

Hogg has managed to shrug off claims he is a “crisis actor,” not to mention regular death threats. He said, “If somebody is stupid enough to try anything on us, that will make the movement even stronger.”
