Trump Plans to Invite Kim to Mar-a-Lago for Follow-Up Summit

President Donald Trump is allegedly taking into consideration the possibility to offer North Korean leader Kim Jong-un to be his guest at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida as part of a follow-up summit that might happen if the meeting in Singapore on June 12 goes smoothly.

According to Bloomberg, the Florida summit is probably going to happen in the fall, but only if both leaders manage to get along well.

Trump and Kim are scheduled to meet in Singapore at the Capella Hotel for a summit where the main topic of discussion will be the dismantling of North Korea’s nuclear capabilities.

However, the White House still hasn’t provided an official schedule for the day other than saying that the two leaders will meet at 9 a.m. on June 12 and, if the meeting goes well, further events are expected for later in the day and possibly the day after.

Bloomberg also reported that the President has been consulted by his top advisors not to concede anything to Kim in an effort to put pressure on North Korea to make the summit a success.

Last month, Trump canceled the summit after North Korea and some U.S. officials exchanged threats. However, a week later the President announced the meeting was back on.

Meanwhile, South Korean government officials during that week met with Kim who assured them that he is completely dedicated to achieving long-lasting peace on the Korean Peninsula.

Both leaders are faced with a tough challenge, as Washington is pushing for a complete denuclearization in order to lift economic sanctions, while North Korea hasn’t given any signal that it plans to give up all of its nuclear arsenals.

As a sign of good faith, North Korea has already destroyed some of its nuclear facilities, promising that it will destroy all of them and it won’t produce new on the condition to keep some of their already operational ballistic missiles.
