Trump’s Parade Cause for Concerns in Pentagon

Deep concerns have emerged among U.S. military officials as а result of the military parade proposal President Donald Trump made.

According to a report published by CNN, the cost of the parade and the possible disruption it could result in have been cause for concern. Interference with military training schedules as well as strategic positions will be only a part of the problems the parade is likely to cause, warned a defense official directly familiar with initial planning efforts.

The Hill also reported that another defense official said there are worries about how much the parade could cost. The Pentagon is reportedly thinking about looking for private donations, which could be used to pay for particular parts of the parade. The cost of the military parade is estimated to be anywhere between $3 million to $50 million as reported by the officials working on the planning.

“We don’t have troops and units sitting around waiting to do a parade,” the official added.

In case not enough funding is found, the officials said that as a backup plan they could set up large video screens where images of military gear will be shown, in order to avoid the need of bringing a lot of equipment and soldiers. Additional options and solutions for the parade are still being crafted.

Earlier this month, it was reported by military officials that they are in the planning stages for the proposed military parade.

During his presidency, President Donald Trump has on several occasions proposed a large-scale parade.

Last week, it was reported by The Hill that budget director Mick Mulvaney told the House Budget Committee that the parade’s cost would vary depending on length, but could be anywhere from $10 million to $30 million.

Meanwhile, several Pentagon officials said in an early meeting about the parade that they did not know how the cost will be covered. Veterans Day is the most likely choice for the parade to take place on.
