Trump: Americans Are Dreamers Too

President Donald Trump thanked his viewers early Thursday for supporting and complimenting him on his first State of the Union address on Wednesday. The president also praised Fox News in his tweet for its performance and added that the speech was “delivered from the heart.”

“Thank you for all of the nice compliments and reviews on the State of the Union speech. 45.6 million people watched, the highest number in history. Fox News beat every other Network, for the first time ever, with 11.7 million people tuning in. Delivered from the heart!” Trump tweeted.

However, Nielsen viewership statistics show previous presidential addresses to Congress by the former presidents to have higher viewership than Trump’s.

According to Nielsen, Trump’s speech to a joint session of Congress early last year attracted a total of 47.7 million viewers, for example, while former President Barack Obama had 48 million in January 2010 and 52 million in February 2009 and former President George W. Bush had 62 million in January 2003 and 51.9 million in January 2002.

The Hill reported that Trump hosted various guests at the event in an effort to push his policies, including a defector from North Korea and the parents of two victims of international criminal gang MS-13.

Trump’s address was dominated by the issue surrounding the new immigration policies. Trump strongly defended his administration position on the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, which protects thousands of young immigrants called “Dreamers”  that were brought to the U.S. illegally as children from being deported.

President Trump had his moment when his supporters praised him after he declared that “Americans are dreamers too,” in a reference to DACA recipients.

Later the president mentioned the North Korean and Iranian regimes as enemies of the state as a response to the tensions that have been developing since Trump took office.
