Over 50 Democratic Female Lawmakers Seek Probe of Trump Misconduct Allegations

More than 50 Democratic female lawmakers called for a House Oversight Committee investigation into allegations of sexual misconduct against President Donald Trump.

“We cannot ignore the multitude of women who have come forward with accusations against Mr. Trump,” 56 members of the Democratic Women Working Group (DWWG) wrote in their letter.

In the letter they ask the Oversight Chairman Trey Gowdy and ranking member Elijah Cummings to open an investigation after several accusations, The Hill reports. The letter follows a call by three women, who accused the president of sexual misconduct, for a congressional investigation into his behavior. The request was sent to leaders of the Oversight and Government Reform Committee, Reuters informs.

According to the lawmakers, Trump’s remarks appear to back up the allegations, referring to the “Access Hollywood” tape in which he boasted about groping and kissing women.

“The President has boasted in public and in crude terms that he feels at liberty to perpetrate such conduct against women. Subsequently, Mr. Trump apologized and called it ‘locker room talk.’ He has since called all his accusers liars,” the lawmakers wrote.

Last year Trump apologized for talking about groping women in the tape, dating from 2005, and added that he had not done those things. Recently he said that the voice n the recording was not his.

Several women have accused Trump of making unwanted sexual advances against them before he started his political career. According to the letter, there are at least 17 accusers, but Trump and White House officials have denied the allegations.

“These false claims, totally disputed in most cases by eyewitness accounts, were addressed at length during last year’s campaign, and the American people voiced their judgment by delivering a decisive victory,” a White House spokesperson said in a statement on Monday.

Meanwhile, The Hill reports that Trump was reportedly furious with U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, Nikki Haley, for saying that the women who have accused the president should be heard.
