Secret Service Spent $150,000 on Golf Cart Rentals since Trump Became President

Federal purchase orders show that the Secret Service has spent at least $144,975 on golf cart rentals alone since President Donald Trump entered the White House. While the president was in his private golf club Mar-a-Lago for Thanksgiving, the Secret Service spent about $7,500 on golf cart rentals, USA Today reveals.

The purchase orders show that the agency which is responsible for the protection of the president has spent $7,470 on the rentals for Trump’s Florida golf outings. President Trump visited the Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach four times last week. He also visited the Trump National Golf Club. In September the Secret Service and the cart rental company from Florida Golf Cart and Utility Distributions signed a deal, but the golf trips taken for Thanksgiving have increased the total amount of the deal to $69,430. That contract is the biggest purchase order that the agency has made for golf carts since February.

Trump often goes to his golf courses in Florida, Bedminster, and Sterling. During the Thanksgiving weekend, Trump even played golf with Tiger Woods. Throughout his presidency, Trump has spent more than 100 days at his properties and 81 days at golf properties, NBC tracker shows. According to the tracker, the president as spent 314 days in office.

Several months ago there were reports that the Secret Service can no longer pay the overtime for hundreds of agents it needs to carry out an expanded protective mission. That happens mainly because Trump’s family is pretty big and because of the efforts needed to secure the residences up and down the East Coast. According to Secret Service Director Randolph “Tex” Alles, more than one thousand agents have hit the federally mandated caps for salary and overtime allowances which were supposed to last the whole year.
