North Korea Says Trump’s Decision to Relist It as State Sponsor of Terrorism Is Provocation

Donald Trump’s decision to relist North Korea as a state sponsor of terrorism is a serious provocation that justifies the development of nuclear weapons, North Korea says. The Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) published the first public response to Trump’s decision which says that North Korea is not connected to terrorism and that they do not care whether the U.S. puts a cap of terrorism on them or not. It also says that the U.S. action shows that Pyongyang should continue to keep the treasured nuclear sword in its hands more tightly in order to protect itself from the American hostility, the Associated Press reports.

“By re-listing (North Korea) as a ‘state sponsor of terrorism,’ the U.S. openly revealed to the whole world its intention to destroy our ideology and system by using all kinds of means and methods. Our army and people are full of rage and anger toward the heinous gangsters who dared to put the name of our sacred country in this wretched list of ‘terrorism’ and are hardening their will to settle all accounts with those gangsters at any time in any way,” says an unnamed spokesman for North Korea’s Foreign Ministry.

Afterwards the agency published another statement attributed to a spokesman of the state organization Korea Asia-Pacific Peace Committee. The statement says that the move by “old lunatic Trump” has caused the North Korean army and people to explode in hate and spirit to destroy the enemy.

Some experts think that Trump’s decision will have limited practical effect, but could make a diplomatic solution of the standoff over North Korea’s nuclear program more difficult. Washington also imposed new sanctions on North Korean shipping firms and Chinese trading companies in order to increase the pressure on Pyongyang and deprive it of foreign revenue.
