Lawyer Attempts to Discredit Woman Accusing Moore of Sexual Harassment

Roy Moore’s lawyer, Phillip L. Jauregui said on Wednesday that the former judge still denies the accusations of sexual abuse. He also sought to discredit one of the women who have recently come forward with claims of sexual abuse by Moore.

On Monday, Beverly Young Nelson said she was sexually assaulted by Moore four decades ago, which Jauregui tried to refute claiming her assertions that she didn’t have any contact with the former judge after the supposed assault were false.

“As it turns out, in 1999, Ms. Nelson filed a divorce action against her then-husband, Mr. Harris. Guess who that case was before? It was filed in Etowah County, and the judge assigned was Roy S. Moore. There was contact,” he said.

Nelson said that Moore had written the following words in her yearbook in 1977: “To a sweeter more beautiful girl, I could not say, ‘Merry Christmas,’” which she maintains is proof they knew each other. Moore denied ever writing the inscription, while Jauregui pointed out that a handwriting expert had been hired to evaluate the yearbook inscription. His lawyer, Gloria Allred, said they would release the yearbook so that an “independent expert or experts” can examine it only if a Senate committee conducts a hearing into the allegations against Moore in the next two weeks. Moore completely rejected the accusations or the claims he even knows her.

“I can tell you without hesitation, this is absolutely false. I never did what she said I did. I don’t even know the woman. I don’t know anything about her.”

Since the allegations were first shed light on, Republicans have called on Moore to step down and some have even go so far to say they would support expelling him from Senate in case he wins. Moore’s lawyer said the allegations were “incredibly painful for him, for his wife, his mom, his daughter, grandchildren.”
