Obama to Speak Out against Trump If He Terminates DACA

Former President Barack Obama has avoided directly criticizing President Donald Trump since the inauguration in January, but should Trump announce plans to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, that will change, Politico reports.

The DACA program started in 2012 under Obama via an executive order, and Trump has spoken many times about his desire to end it. He is expected to make an announcement Tuesday about terminating the program, which grants amnesty to undocumented immigrants who entered the United States as children.

Obama will reportedly write a Facebook post speaking out against the president’s decision and share it on Twitter. In his final press conference before leaving office, Obama suggested he would largely not be involved in political issues but did say some would compel him to speak out.

“I’d put in that category institutional efforts to silence dissent or the press. And for me at least, I would put in that category efforts to roundup kids who have grown up here and for all practical purposes are American kids, and send them someplace else, when they love this country.” Obama said back in January.
