Romney: Bigots and People Fighting Hate ‘Not the Same’

Mitt Romney has fired back at President Trump for his statement that “both sides” were responsible for the incident that occurred at a white supremacist rally over the weekend, claiming that the two clashing groups were “morally different universes”, the Hill reports.

“No, not the same. One side is racist, bigoted, Nazi. The other opposes racism and bigotry. Morally different universes,” Romney tweeted on Tuesday.

Romney was responding to Trump’s comments made on Tuesday that “both sides” were to blame for the incidents at a white supremacist protests in Charlottesville, on Saturday.

Trump sparked outrage when he first said that “many sides” were to blame for the incident at the rally. One woman was killed and more than a dozen others were injured after a man plowed his car into a crowd of counter-protesters at the rally.

Trump defended his slow reaction to condemn white supremacists and other hate groups, saying he needed to “know the facts” first before making his statement.

“I will tell you something. I watched those very closely, much more closely than you people watched it,” Trump stated on Tuesday. “And you had a group on one side that was bad, and you had a group on the other side that was also very violent. And nobody wants to say that. But I’ll say it right now. You had a group on the other side that came charging in without a permit, and they were very, very violent.”
